While painting during the 2020 pandemic, the sea nymph Kymopoleia mysteriously materialized on my canvas. The goddess of storm waves, daughter of Poseidon, appeared in her long gown on the left side of the painting. For a couple years, I studied the incomplete work, contemplating the meaning behind her vague, enigmatic shape—at times still as a rock, at others alive and moving.

After thorough research, I discovered her identity, I knew with certainty it was Kymopoleia. Recognizing her urged me to complete the piece, adding the final glazes and a bright sky behind the storm, with blue hues promising hope after turbulence, both past and future.
