STRANGE BLUE

A few thoughts from the artist.

Strange Blue began with a feeling I had underwater, lying still and looking up at the surface of the sea. From that quiet place, the world above looked like a shifting skin of light; thin, bright threads weaving and breaking, always moving. I spent long moments just watching, letting the patterns of light and colour imprint themselves on my memory. In the studio, I tried to hold on to that sensation. I didn’t paint from a photo or a sketch; instead, I let my brush follow the rhythm of what I remembered, like a kind of dance. The lines came alive again through movement and instinct.

There was a certain song by Terence Trent D’Arby that I used to play while working—it had the right mood, something deep and a little mysterious. The title Strange Blue came from there, but it also described what I was trying to express: that underwater dream-space where light becomes liquid and time feels slow. The painting is not just about what I saw, but how it felt to be inside that moment, floating below the surface, watching the sky dissolve into light.

The painting is available as a special limited edition canvas print.
