Who are you and what kind of art do you create?

I’m Marina Syntelis, a Greek contemporary painter. I create expressive seascapes, abstract works, and textured paintings that capture the raw beauty of the sea, light, and nature. Each painting is an exploration of movement, emotion, and storytelling through color and form.

What inspires your paintings?

My greatest inspiration comes from the ever-changing sea, shifting skies, and the dance of light and shadow. Many of my original seascape paintings are born from chance discoveries on the canvas — like unexpected figures or mythical nymphs emerging from the waves.

Where can I learn more about your creative process?

I share stories behind my paintings, my artistic journey, and why I paint the sea on my blog. It’s a space where I write openly about my process and what inspires my work.

What materials and techniques do you use?

I mostly work with oils and acrylics on canvas or textured paper. I use acrylics when I want to capture something quickly and decisively, and oils for creating depth, richness, and layered textures. My technique blends controlled gesture with spontaneous exploration.

Where can I see your original paintings in person?

Some of my original seascape paintings are currently on display at the Papillon Gallery in the UK, where you’re welcome to view them. You can also visit my studio by appointment to see available works in person. It’s also very common for clients and collectors to request an online video call to view a specific painting up close — this can always be arranged to help you get a true sense of texture, color, and scale before making a decision.

Do you ship internationally?

Absolutely! I ship my original paintings worldwide. For artworks leaving Greece, I obtain a special export certificate from the National Gallery of Greece to ensure everything is properly documented — this might add a few extra days to shipping.
