AΨINTHOS
A few thoughts from the artist.
In this painting, I wanted to create a sea that is bitter and dark; a poisonous expanse wrapped in a heavy mist. When you look at the canvas, the water isn't a place of escape or light anymore; it feels heavy, lightless, and unyielding. The sense of uncertainty is intensified even more by the mist that floods the atmosphere, causing every element of orientation to be lost.
That visual mood naturally led me to the ancient Greek concept of apsinthos (wormwood). The olive-gold undertones and the dark grey surface mirror that exact bitterness. It is a psychological barrier, capturing the feeling of waters turned harsh, deep and untamed. By keeping the Greek letter Ψ into the title as AΨINTHOS, it becomes more than just a name. It’s a visual glyph. It anchors the piece in its Hellenic roots while subtly touching upon the psyche, transforming the canvas into a reflection of deep, internal gravity and intensity of the unseen depths.
