In The Storm I began as a portrait of a wave. I was fascinated by the way this single wave rose up like a mountain, full of strength and shape. It didn’t have the hardness of stone, but it felt just as massive. The sparkle of the water became its texture, and the spray moved with such force it reminded me of lava spilling down a slope. That contrast between something so fluid and something so powerful really inspired me.

While painting, I focused on capturing that energy, the kind that feels like it could crash down at any moment, but also holds a kind of beauty in its motion. I didn’t want to simply show a stormy sea; I wanted the wave to feel alive, full of motion and presence. It was about honoring that moment when nature feels enormous and unstoppable, but also incredibly detailed and intricate, right down to the smallest shimmer of light.
