THE SIRENS
A few thoughts from the artist.
The inspiration for this work came from the Ionian Sea and its unique colors. The dominant shades of blue often create an impression of calm and serenity, but this is deceptive, as the strong local currents make the sea particularly dangerous.
When I heard the news about a young life lost to the waters of the area, I strongly felt that heavy contradiction. The beauty of the sea invites you in, much like the myth of the sirens, while hiding its peril beneath.
In this painting, I wanted to capture a wave that appears beautiful yet carries a fierce wildness behind it, followed by the deep marine current. As the wave breaks and glows, its curves flow with an almost dance-like movement, while forming dark, hidden caves that conceal danger. I tried not to force my brushstrokes; the movement of my hand wanted to come naturally, just like a breaking wave, just like the movement of the sea itself.
