WINTER

A few thoughts from the artist.

Winter was inspired by a drive along the coast on a cold, overcast day. The sky was heavy and grey, and the sea almost matched it. It was dark, still, and slightly reflective. The view was simple but striking, and it stayed with me long after the drive. I took photos, but they didn’t capture what I really saw or felt in that moment.

I usually work with oils, but this time I chose acrylics because I wanted to start painting right away. The scene was fresh in my mind, and I didn’t want to lose that first impression. Acrylics gave me the speed and flexibility to work quickly and focus on the atmosphere rather than the fine details.

This painting focuses on tone, contrast, and mood rather than complexity. It’s about that specific winter day—the light, the stillness, and the quiet feeling of standing in front of the sea when everything looks and feels a little heavier.
