Original Seascape Oil Painting: Oil Sketch No. 29

This piece brings a sense of raw power and ocean energy to a small scale, painted directly on high-quality Fabriano paper. It focuses on a dense, crashing wave throwing bright white foam and spray against the dark water.

Instead of working wet-on-wet in a single session, I built Oil Sketch No. 29 in three distinct glaze layers. I used the exact same custom medium that I use for my larger canvas paintings, based on a traditional 17th-century recipe. Taking the time to build it across multiple stages gave the small paper surface a deep, natural luminosity.
