AFROESSA

A few thoughts from the artist.

The word Afroessa is used to describe the foamy sea in Greek, but there’s something more to it. The way the vowels sit next to each other in the word almost makes you breathe differently. There’s space, softness, like air moving through water. That’s what I wanted to capture in this painting. Not just a seascape, but a feelin, a moment where the sea isn’t solid or still, but full of breath.

While working on this piece, I could actually feel that air. It moved through the studio, through me, and into the brush. I let it guide my hand as I traced the delicate curves of the waves. Each line felt like a breath, each layer like something living. I didn’t want to control it too much. I tried to follow the sea’s rhythm, to experience the freedom and unpredictability of water that’s always shifting, always becoming something new.
